Berwick Wing Chair |
Taken from a Georgian original of the 1730's, the Berwick wing chair has a simpler, cleaner style than other chairs of the period. Its plain cabriole legs do not have the complexity of the more usual 'claw & ball' feet found on other chairs of the period. For all this simplicity, the chair has a very pleasing line, and is constructed with solid mahogany legs which are hand polished. The seat construction is webbed with a feather and down cushion supplied as standard whilst the back is hand tied with hair and cotton wadding stuffings over the springing. As with all Greengate pieces, the outside edges are closed by invisible hand stitching to complete the piece. |
